All our leading products have at least two things in common: each one was designed by an accomplished HAM and has been widely accepted for many years by AMATEURS, COMMERCIAL, and MILITARY communicators alike, both in a the US and at least 50 countries around the world. The W2AU ("Big Signal") BALUN was developed By Paul Wandelt, W2AU (of course) over 30 years ago. The World -famous product is the preferred BALUN for domestic and overseas HAMS, COMMERCIAL HF equipment operators and segments of the US armed forces.

The W2DU HF (Big Signal MAXI-BALUN) was designed by Walter Maxwell for HF or VHF use which obtains greatly improved BALUN performance by placing ferrite beads or sleeves of even higher permeability around the coaxial feed line coaxial BALUN Bead materials of various size and RF characteristics are used that dramatically increase both the reactance and resistance of a conductor. (adding resistance to the reactance in the circuit improves the operational bandwidth of the BALUN with no increase in loss.) In general , the impedance of the outer coaxial braid surface increases almost proportionately with the number of beads placed over it. A combination of Teflon - dielectric cable and ferrite beads form a superb , compact, wide-band BALUN. While the two inner conductors of the coaxial cable remain unaffected the beads introduce a high impedance in series with the braid outer surface. The configuration effectively isolates the external output terminal of the feed line from that at the input end.

At legal input levels, no power handling problems will arise using these BALUNS, because the CW power handling capability of the cable is 3.5 kW at 50 MHz, and 9 kW at l0 MHz. The INLINE COAXIAL RELAYS had their beginnings in 1961, when Sam Lackoff , W1NBB , designed and built some to eliminate multiple cables on his antenna farm in Manchester, New Hampshire . Egged on by request from other amateurs, Sam went into production and, over the years, created a whole system of relays which can be used to remotely select from up to nine antennas and perform a lot of other useful chores to eliminate tower climbing. Although Amateurs make up the largest group of users, these relays are also extensively used in commercial, industrial, CATV, and marine radio systems.
